Although we know this area a little, we have never stayed in ‘The Garden Rooms’ I must say it is the nicest place we have stayed in. Vanessa was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It was well appointed and very comfortable and clean. We shall certainly return. Derek came for fishing and was not disappointed. He caught a 14.5 lb salmon on the Dilston beat (South Tyne). He saw many fish and lost a few. Weather was kind to us and we shall go home with fond memories of good fishing and super accommodation.

Without rushing we have made good use of the week- this has proved a comfortable and relaxing base. Can highly recommend the guided tour of Hexham; Belsay House and Wallington. The Garden Rooms became famous: We heard about the Garden Rooms in Switzerland! We came by train and airplane and landed in a beautiful area. Green meadows with sheep and lambs, yellow rapeseed fields, sun, wind, almost no rain (fortunately!) and Vanessa’s gorgeous garden! We like the nature, but we also looked at the pictures in all (!plenty of!) books about Hadrian’s Wall! We walked from Steelrigg carpark along the wall. We also visited the Hadrian’s Wall at Heddon on the Wall and we’ve played the “Solitaire” (French game with the white marbles) about a hundred times! Thank you Vanessa for all the eggs and for the clean house, where we found everything we needed! Including chef’s apron! Thank you for everything!

When I saw there was a guest book to fill in, I started to think of how to describe ‘The Garden Rooms’ but gorgeous, stunning and comfortable just didn’t cover it. Perfect is probably the closest objective but it still doesn’t feel enough to describe the time we had here.
